Allie’s Angels’ Beneficiaries We offer various means of support to children primarily in southern Michigan who are suffering from life threatening illnesses, to the hospitals that treat them, and to carefully selected scientific research projects devoted to pediatric brain tumor research. Allie's Angels made a $25,000 donation in
2004 to
The Brain Tumor Center, Duke University Medical Center, Durham, North
Carolina to support their cutting edge pediatric brain cancer research
program.
Facts About Pediatric Brain Cancer Brain cancer is the number one disease killer of children under the age of 20. The incidence of pediatric brain tumors has steadily increased over the past two decades at the alarming rate of 5-10% per year. Almost half of all children with brain cancer will not survive more than 5 years and many will die within one year of diagnosis. There is no known cause of childhood brain cancer. Most brain tumors occur for no apparent reason. There has been far less progress in the development of effective treatments for brain tumors than for any other type of cancer.
Allie loved to draw pictures of little girls with long eyelashes and long hair, always with a pretty bow. We took this beautiful self-portrait, and made it the centerpiece of the Allie’s Angels logo. Allie’s older sister, Megan, added a butterfly, wings and a halo, while Allie’s younger sister, Caroline, used her best handwriting to write ‘Angels’ next to Allie‘s signature. We dotted the ‘i’ with a heart created by Megan and Caroline together. We hope that when you look at our logo, you feel the innocence, hope, and love of a child.
